Bankside Cottage - Ballater

Bankside Cottage :: Ballater

Bankside is a detached cottage, built at the end of the 19th century using the local pink granite. It has been renovated to a high standard, and provides pleasant holiday accommodation with comfort and character.

Just a couple of minutes walk from the centre of the village, it is convenient for shops and restaurants. The front of the house is smothered in roses and honeysuckle, and the garden is filled with shrubs and traditional cottage flowers such as delphiniums and hollyhocks. The fully enclosed back garden is private, and mainly laid to lawn, with a table and chairs for alfresco dining.

The kitchen is fully equipped, and we have tried to think of everything you will need. There is a table which seats six easily, and a built in ceramic hob and double oven with grill. The kitchen is a lovely bright room with windows to front and rear, a traditional Belfast sink and solid wood worktops.

There is a good selection of cookery books for those who enjoy cooking, and for those who just want a quick snack, there is a microwave too. In addition there is a deep freeze in the shed adjoining the cottage.

The Sitting Room has an open fireplace and solid oak flooring. There are two deep, comfortable settees and big, comfortable armchair. There is a wide selection of books, including some for children, and also games and puzzles.

In the writing desk you will find tourist information, details of local walks and other information that you may need. There is a television, DVD player and a portable CD player and radio, but many of our guests find that there is so much to do they hardly watch television at all.

The twin bedroom is off the kitchen, and is ideal for anyone who finds stairs difficult. As well as comfortable divan beds, there is plenty of storage and it overlooks the back garden.

The shower room has an instant shower, giving hot water all the time for as many showers as you want. There is a small sink and toilet. This room is useful for guests who cannot manage the stairs, but please note there is a single step up to it.

The double bedroom is upstairs, with a dormer window and traditional sloping ceilings. The generous pine bed is comfortable and the room has painted furniture giving it a lovely, old-fashioned feel.

The upstairs twin bedroom has pine beds and again has a dormer window and sloping ceilings. There is plenty of storage space and it also has a pleasant, traditional feel. Bathroom with bath, sink and W.C.
